Its never easy when somebody in your family passes away and the sadness that follows it is something that you never want to revisit. When we sadly lost my Grandfather at the age of 90 in August it wasn’t easy to deal with but he had left behind some incredible memories and stories that will stay with me forever. Fighting in World War II I always knew that he’d been to some amazing places and experienced some amazing things but I could never really imagine what it would have been like.
When my Dad came across this book he had never seen before it allowed us to experience some of the things that my Grandfather had done in his late teens and early twenties whilst in the army. He had recorded some his time with photographs travelling through North Africa. I was amazed at how good this pictures were, not just the content that filled them but shooting film is not exactly the easiest task and shooting film in a war zone is something that is unimaginable. This is my Victorian Kingfisher- Charles. I am about to embark on a new adventure. To learn the art of Taxidermy. I think he is beautiful. The idea of preserving such beauties, so we can enjoy them time after time, intrigues me. We are able to bring back a life which has been snatched prematurely (roadkill) or a life which has run out of juice, and admire and them forever. They will now exist longer than we will.
